LAUNCH WEBINAR: "Emissions Trading in Practice: A Handbook On Design and Implementation" (2nd Edition)– 22nd Mar @ CET 09:00-10:30
On 22 March, 2022, from 09:00 to 10:30 CET // 16:00 to 17:30 CST, GIZ China, ICAP and the World Bank will jointly host a public launch webinar to mark the release of the Chinese version of the updated version of the flagship ETS Handbook.

Heightened ambition in jurisdictions’ climate targets has resulted in growing adoption of Emissions Trading Systems (ETSs). To maximize its effectiveness, an ETS needs to be designed in line with a jurisdiction’s context. In 2021, China launched its own national ETS and completed successfully the first cycle of compliance. With the support of the GIZ project “Sino-German Cooperation on Emissions Trading Systems, Carbon Market Mechanisms and Industry-related N2O Mitigation”, this updated ETS Handbook, now available in Chinese, draws from recent learnings gained over the last five years as jurisdictions around the world have gathered experience in designing, implementing, and refining ETSs.

The public launch event, in virtual format, will feature key speakers from the World Bank, ICAP, Renming University of China, SinoCarbon, Environmental Defense Fund as well as China’s National Centre for Climate Change Strategy and International Cooperation (NCSC) and China Electricity Council (CEC) who will provide an overview of how ETS enables the achievement of China’s carbon peaking and carbon neutrality goals. Simultaneous translation (English/Chinese) will be available throughout.
